The Do Dham Yatra — Kedarnath & Badrinath

The Do Dham Yatra is one of Hinduism’s most sacred pilgrimages, covering two of the four Char Dham shrines in Uttarakhand: Kedarnath (dedicated to Lord Shiva, one of the 12 Jyotirlingas) and Badrinath (dedicated to Lord Vishnu, one of the Char Dhams and one of the 108 Divya Desams). Together, they represent the divine balance of destruction and preservation, Shiva and Vishnu, and completing the Do Dham Yatra is considered one of the most spiritually rewarding journeys a Hindu devotee can undertake. The Do Dham Yatra package is ideal for devotees who want a meaningful, manageable pilgrimage to the two most important shrines of the Uttarakhand Himalayan circuit without the extended duration of the full Char Dham.

For devotees across India, the Do Dham Yatra package offers the perfect balance of spiritual depth and practical feasibility. Typically completed in 5–7 days from Haridwar or Rishikesh, the Do Dham Yatra covers the two most revered Himalayan shrines with well-planned logistics. In 2026, the Kedarnath Temple opened on 22 April and Badrinath Temple opened on 24 April, with both temples remaining open until approximately November 2026. Mandatory registration through the Uttarakhand Char Dham Yatra portal and a health-focused SOP (including pre-yatra medical screening and 24/7 medical helpline) have been implemented by the government. At Plan Your Destinations, our Do Dham Yatra packages are designed with meticulous attention to registration, acclimatisation, physical safety, and spiritual fulfilment.

Whether you’re planning a trek-based Do Dham Yatra, a helicopter Do Dham package, or an extended Char Dham circuit, Plan Your Destinations has a Do Dham Yatra package that’s perfect for you.

Top Destinations in Our Do Dham Yatra Packages

Every Do Dham Yatra package from Plan Your Destinations covers the complete sacred journey  from the gateway cities of Haridwar and Rishikesh through the Himalayan route to the divine darshan at Kedarnath and Badrinath.

1. Kedarnath — The Jyotirlinga of Lord Shiva

Kedarnath is the spiritual centrepiece of the Do Dham Yatra. The ancient temple at 3,583 metres houses one of the 12 sacred Jyotirlingas, a naturally formed triangular rock representing Lord Shiva’s hump (as per the Pandava legend). The temple’s grey stone walls have withstood centuries, including the devastating 2013 floods when a massive boulder (Bhim Shila) miraculously diverted floodwaters around the shrine. The morning and evening aarti at Kedarnath, with snow peaks glowing in the first light, is one of Hinduism’s most transcendent spiritual moments. Behind the temple, the Adi Shankaracharya Samadhi honours the great philosopher-saint. The Bhairavnath Temple (guardian deity) must be visited before departing. Plan Your Destinations arranges all darshan, aarti timings, and trek/helicopter logistics for every Do Dham Yatra package.

Highlights: Jyotirlinga Darshan, Morning & Evening Aarti, Bhim Shila 2013 Miracle, Adi Shankaracharya Samadhi, Bhairavnath Temple, 3,583 m Setting

2. Badrinath — The Abode of Lord Vishnu

Badrinath is the second dham of the Do Dham Yatra and one of the most important Vaishnavite shrines in India. The colourful temple, situated between the Nar and Narayan mountain ranges on the banks of the Alaknanda River, is one of the four Char Dhams, one of the 108 Divya Desams, and one of the Panch Badri temples. The presiding deity is Lord Badri Vishal (a black stone idol of Lord Vishnu in meditative posture). Adi Shankaracharya is credited with establishing the temple in its current form in the 9th century. The Tapt Kund (natural hot water spring at the temple entrance, believed to have medicinal properties), the Narad Kund, and the Brahma Kapal (where shraddh ceremonies for ancestors are performed) are integral to the Badrinath pilgrimage. Badrinath is fully accessible by road, making it easier than Kedarnath. Plan Your Destinations includes a comprehensive Badrinath darshan in all Do Dham Yatra packages.

Highlights: Badri Vishal Darshan, Tapt Kund Hot Springs, Brahma Kapal Shraddh, Nar-Narayan Peaks, Alaknanda River, Maha Abhishek Aarti

3. Mana Village — India’s Last Village

Just 3 km beyond Badrinath lies Mana Village the last inhabited village on the Indian side of the Tibet border. This tiny, culturally rich village at 3,200 metres is home to the Saraswati River (which disappears underground here), the Bhim Pul (a natural rock bridge said to have been placed by Bhima over the Saraswati gorge), Vyasa Gufa (the cave where sage Vyasa is believed to have composed the Mahabharata), and Ganesh Gufa (where Lord Ganesha is said to have transcribed Vyasa’s words). The Vasudhara Waterfall (a 122-metre waterfall, 6 km trek from Mana) is another sacred attraction. Plan Your Destinations includes Mana Village in every Do Dham Yatra package as an essential cultural and spiritual extension of the Badrinath visit.

Highlights: India’s Last Village, Bhim Pul, Vyasa Gufa (Mahabharata Cave), Ganesh Gufa, Saraswati River, Vasudhara Falls

4. The Kedarnath Trek — Gaurikund to the Temple

The 18–20 km Kedarnath trek is a defining element of the Do Dham Yatra. Starting from Gaurikund (1,982 metres with a sacred hot kund where Goddess Parvati is believed to have performed penance), the trail ascends 1,600 metres through forests, alpine meadows, and glacial streams. Rest stops at Rambara (halfway) and Lincholi break the journey. The final approach, with the temple appearing dramatically against a wall of snow peaks, is awe-inspiring. For devotees unable to trek: ponies (₹3,000–5,000 one-way), palkis/dolis (₹6,000–15,000), and a helicopter (10 minutes from Phata/Guptkashi/Sirsi helipad) are available. Plan Your Destinations arranges all trek support and helicopter bookings within Do Dham Yatra packages.

Highlights: 18 km Sacred Trail, Gaurikund Hot Springs, Rambara Rest Point, 1,600 m Elevation Gain, Pony/Palki/Helicopter Options

5. Guptkashi, Rudraprayag & En-Route Sacred Sites

The Do Dham Yatra route is itself a pilgrimage through sacred geography. Guptkashi (1,319 metres) houses the Vishwanath Temple (replica of Kashi Vishwanath) and Ardhnarishwar Temple. Rudraprayag marks the sacred confluence of the Alaknanda and Mandakini rivers. Devprayag (the most sacred of the five Prayags, where the Ganges is born from the meeting of Alaknanda and Bhagirathi) is crossed en route. Joshimath (the winter seat of Lord Badrinath and home to the ancient Narasimha Temple with a reportedly shrinking idol) is the gateway to Badrinath. Plan Your Destinations includes stops at all these sacred sites in our Do Dham Yatra packages.

Highlights: Guptkashi Vishwanath Temple, Rudraprayag Confluence, Devprayag (Ganges Origin), Joshimath Narasimha Temple, Five Prayags

6. Haridwar & Rishikesh — Gateway to the Do Dham Yatra

Every Do Dham Yatra package begins with the sacred gateway cities. Haridwar’s Har Ki Pauri Ganga Aarti. where thousands gather each evening to watch flaming lamps set afloat on the Ganges  is one of India’s most powerful spiritual experiences and the traditional starting ritual of any Uttarakhand yatra. Rishikesh, the Yoga Capital of the World, offers Lakshman Jhula, Ram Jhula, Triveni Ghat aarti, and dozens of ashrams along the Ganges. Many devotees begin their Do Dham Yatra from Haridwar or Rishikesh, both of which are well-connected by road, rail, and air (via Dehradun). Plan Your Destinations includes Haridwar and Rishikesh sightseeing in all Do Dham Yatra packages.

Highlights: Haridwar Ganga Aarti, Har Ki Pauri, Rishikesh Ashrams, Lakshman Jhula, Ram Jhula, Triveni Ghat, Yoga Capital
